Here in Plymouth, Thanksgiving day pales in comparison to the Saturday before the holiday. That’s when the America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration – our Thanksgiving parade – struts through town. I sound like a crazy person when I explain this event to out-of-towners, because I think it’s such a extraordinarily fabulous day!
The official website for the event is USAthanksgiving.com, and I’ve included below some observations:
Did you know the parade will be shown live on Channel 5, and also live streamed by WCVB on the internet? Information here!
Local resident Ollie deMacedo is the parade man! He’s the man behind the curtain who makes sure the parade happens. Thank you, Ollie!
The favorite part of the parade for me is seeing the majestic Clydesdale horses, and the dalmation sitting regally atop the delivery wagon they pull. Fabulous!
Every year the parade weekend has grown and improved, to include many events the day (or even 2 days) before. One of the best places to see all the events in town easily is our calendar page here!
I’m personally thrilled to hear that there’s going to be a local brewery beer garden (& wine) on the waterfront. Think Oktoberfest!
One last thing, bring a canned item to donate to the food train set up to stock our food pantry shelves.
Thanksgiving is a celebration of bounty, and here in Plymouth MA we certainly have a lot for which to be thankful. Hope to see you at the parade!
