Have you ever wondered what dark matter is? Are you aware that it accounts for the missing 80% mass of the universe and is considered the most pressing astrophysical question problem of our time. Come to this double feature presentation to learn more. This program will combine DARK with Phantom of the Universe.
DARK explains and explores the nature of dark matter and touches upon how learning more about it will help us understand why the Universe is as it is, where it came from, and how it has evolved over billions of years. We journey through completely immersive visualisations of dark matter evolution calculated upon some of the world’s fastest supercomputers – cosmological visions on a truly vast scale, in which galaxies themselves are but points of light, distributed across far larger intergalactic structures of Dark Matter. These visualisations demonstrate the cutting-edge of contemporary supercomputer visualisation of massive scientific datasets and astrophysical simulation. It sounds like Science Fiction, but it’s not. It’s the real stuff. Real Data, seen in this way for the very first time. Phantom of the Universe showcases an exciting exploration of dark matter, from the Big Bang to its anticipated discovery at the Large Hadron Collider. The show reveals the first hints of its existence through the eyes of Fritz Zwicky, the scientist who coined the term “dark matter.” It describes the astral choreography witnessed by Vera Rubin in the Andromeda galaxy and then plummets deep underground to see the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth, housed in a former gold mine. From there, it journeys across space and time to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, speeding alongside particles before they collide in visually stunning explosions of light and sound, while learning how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the constituents of dark matter.
