Inspiration and passion take the wheel!  Composer Ernő Dohnányi may have laid the bedrock for Hungarian music in the 20th century but American Rhapsody pays homage to his new home in the United States with its variations on familiar folk gospel themes–a celebratory piece!  The joyride ensues with Tchaikovsky’s exuberant Symphony No. 2 written during a summer holiday in Ukraine and infused with the composer’s love of Russian folk songs.  Guest soloist, Meehae Ryo, slides into the driver’s seat during Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1, a full throttle piece written with dramatic, impassioned contrasts between cello and orchestra–seatbelts fastened!
