Join us at September’s Lunch & Learn to hear Virginia and Alden Vaughan discuss four men who traveled across the Atlantic and elsewhere in the early 17th century: John Pory, George Sandys, Stephen Hopkins, and John Smith. Click here to register. 

Virginia Mason Vaughan is Professor Emerita at Clark University. Her published work on Shakespeare and his contemporaries includes Othello: A Contextual History; Performing Blackness on English Stages, 1500-1800; and ‘The Tempest’: Shakespeare in Performance.

Alden T. Vaughan is Professor Emeritus of History at Columbia University. He has published widely on colonial America, including New England Frontier: Puritans and Indians, 1620-1675; American Genesis: Captain John Smith and the Founding of Virginia; and Transatlantic Encounters: American Indians I Britain, 1500-1776.

Together the Vaughans edited The Tempest (Arden, Third Series) and wrote Caliban: A Cultural History and Shakespeare in America.
