One of the pleasant aspects of walking around Plymouth is that we take our crosswalks seriously. When someone steps into a crosswalk, the traffic in both directions stops (almost always) to make it easier for people to cross the street safely. So, feel free to firmly plant a foot in the crosswalk – this puts the drivers on alert that you do intend to cross – and that they should stop.
We have two types of crosswalks I’ve seen. Solid greed with white borders, and diagonal white lines (a la the Beatles’ Abbey Road). So, please, when driving in Plymouth, keep an eye out for crosswalks. And, when endeavoring to cross the street in Plymouth, please seek out a crosswalk.
